A special visit to the Town Hall

We were delighted to head down to the Town Hall to meet the Mayor Councillor Neil Dallen and have a real life lesson in local government. The children all sat in the Council Chambers and stood as Rob the Mace Bearer and Mayor Neil Dallen entered. They then enjoyed a formal meeting complete with a debate on whether chocolate should be banned. You will be delighted to hear that the motion was defeated!
The children were fascinated to hear about the many traditions that are associated with local government and enjoyed asking the Mayor their questions. They couldn’t believe their luck when they were allowed to hold the Mace and try on the Mayoral Chain. What a wonderful experience. We all enjoyed learning about democracy and tradition. Thank you Mr Mayor!
