Remembrance Day 2020

At a time when so many activities have been cancelled due to the pandemic it was a joy to be able to take part in our traditional Remembrance Day albeit separated for safety 2m apart outside in our Pods. Year 2 sang the beautiful song ‘In Flanders Fields’ with lyrics taken from the poem of the same name written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae during the First World War. It was this poem that inspired the symbol of the poppy adopted by The Royal British Legion to indicate respect and support for the armed services. We were lucky enough to have some poppy petals left over from a visit to Richmond Poppy Factory and our Blue Bench Monitors Evelyn and Harrison scattered the petals while Year 2 sang. Creating poppies was a successful theme that continued across the week culminating in Treat Day cakes baked by our talented parents. What a memorable and beautiful week.
