A Science Assembly Spectacular From Our Sister School

On Thursday, as part of our British Science Week celebrations, we were delighted to welcome Mrs Reid, Science Lead from our sister school, Chinthurst School, for a very exciting science assembly.

Mrs Reid captured everyone’s imagination with a series of experiments designed to spark curiosity and encourage the children to ask questions.Volunteers helped create a beautiful Skittles rainbow, watching as the colours dissolved into water to form a vibrant rainbow pattern without mixing. The children also discovered how a chemical reaction between bicarbonate of soda and vinegar can inflate a balloon, and how lemon juice can change the colour of purple cabbage water to red because of its acidity.

One of the most surprising moments came when Mrs Reid carefully pushed pins into a balloon without it popping. The children learnt that balloons are strongest at the darker ends where the material is thicker and less stretched.

This inspired the children to continue using their curious minds to conduct a number of interactive experiments in their classrooms.
