House Day Brings the Whole School Together
6th July 2026
After the summer heatwave meant our traditional Sports Day had to be rescheduled, the children enjoyed a very special alternative: House Day!
Bringing together sport, creativity and plenty of team challenges, it was a wonderful celebration of teamwork and House spirit across St Christopher’s.
One of the special things about life at St Christopher’s is that our Nursery children are very much part of the whole school community. From their earliest days with us, they join in with special events, celebrations and shared activities alongside the older children, helping them to grow in confidence, build friendships across the school and develop a real sense of belonging.
House Day was a wonderful example of this. Nursery children began the day with their own sprint races, egg and spoon races and an obstacle course, while Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 put their developing PE skills into action through running and relay races, throwing and jumping challenges and a range of team activities. There was a fantastic atmosphere as children proudly wore their House colours and cheered one another on.
In the afternoon, children from Nursery to Year 2 came together in their House teams for a carousel of activities. Our youngest children worked alongside their older friends, joining in with parachute games, team challenges and creative activities. The water challenge was a particular favourite! Children carefully carried cups of water over an obstacle course before pouring what remained into their team bucket. It required concentration, balance and plenty of teamwork – with lots of laughter along the way. These shared experiences are an important part of school life, giving Nursery children opportunities to learn from older role models while helping the older children develop kindness, patience and leadership.
Our Year 2 Sports Captains played an important role, leading the House parade and supporting and encouraging the teams throughout the day. Congratulations to Dahl House, who were crowned the overall winners, with Donaldson House and Kemp House finishing joint second and Ahlberg House in fourth place.
Thank you to Miss Greenwood for organising such a memorable day. House Day may have begun as an adaptation to our usual plans, but it became a wonderful celebration of what makes school life at St Christopher’s so special: children of all ages learning, playing and growing together as one happy school community.
