Year 1 Step Back in Time at Chertsey Museum

Last week, our Year 1 classes enjoyed an exciting visit to Chertsey Museum as part of their topic on fashion through the ages.

From the moment they arrived, the children were immersed in history. They loved dressing up in a wonderful selection of costumes from Tudor, Georgian and Victorian times. From flowing gowns and beautifully detailed outfits to hats, veils, ties and cravats, there was so much to explore – and so much excitement as they saw themselves transformed into people from the past.

As part of the experience, the children discovered fascinating facts about historical clothing, including the wide shapes created by Georgian panniers and the structure of Victorian hoops. It was a joy to see their curiosity grow as they learned how fashion has changed over time.

Creativity was at the heart of the day, with the children enjoying hands-on activities such as fan making and dress designing. They embraced every opportunity to share their ideas and bring their own designs to life.

A real highlight was learning some traditional Tudor dancing, which filled the room with laughter and smiles as the children stepped happily back in time together.
