Leadership

Nurturing Young Leaders

As the children reach the top of the school in Year 2, they take pride in being positive role models, growing in confidence, curiosity and independence. Building on the strong foundations of Year 1, they enjoy new responsibilities and leadership opportunities, while sharing happy, meaningful experiences that prepare them for the next exciting step beyond St Christopher’s.

Year 2 Leaders

A much-loved feature of Year 2 is the chance for every child to take on a leadership role. Each role is thoughtfully chosen for the year and carefully matched to children’s growing strengths and interests. Positions include Head Boy and Head Girl, Art, Eco, Music and Sports Captains, House Captains, First Aid Officers, Librarians, Prefects and School Council Chairs. Through these responsibilities, children build confidence, learn to work together and develop a genuine care for others.

Future Leaders Programme

Our Future Leaders Programme is a weekly Year 2 lesson in the Autumn and Spring terms, designed to build confidence, independence and strong communication skills. Through practical activities, teamwork and discussion, children learn what it means to be a leader, how to share their ideas respectfully and how to listen to different viewpoints.

A central part of the programme is VotesforSchools, where children explore real-world questions such as whether screens are better than toys, how easy it is to stand up for yourself, and why climate change matters. After thoughtful discussion, children vote and compare their views with schools across Surrey and the UK, helping them understand that everyone’s voice matters and that opinions can differ.

Together, these sessions support PSHE, British Values and Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) development, while building the confidence, empathy and leadership skills children will carry with them as they grow.
