Pre-Reception’s Big Day Out at Little Street

Excitement was in the air last week as our Pre-Reception children set off on a coach for a very special adventure to Little Street. For many of the children, this was their first-ever school trip and their first experience travelling together by coach, making the day an unforgettable milestone in their Nursery journey.

The children loved every moment of the journey, chatting happily with their friends as they travelled to Little Street, an imaginative role-play town designed especially for young children. Arriving full of anticipation, they were eager to begin exploring.

Throughout the morning, the children immersed themselves in a variety of real-world roles, becoming builders, nurses, shop assistants, doctors and even superheroes. Through imaginative play, they explored different jobs, practised communication and teamwork, and developed confidence as they navigated each exciting new environment.

Experiences like this play an important role in broadening children’s horizons and encouraging them to think about the world around them. While nobody knows what careers may exist by the time today’s three and four-year-olds enter the workplace, opportunities to explore, imagine and dream help nurture the curiosity and confidence that will support them throughout their lives.

After a busy morning of adventure and discovery, the children enjoyed a picnic lunch together before heading back to St Christopher’s, full of stories to share and memories to treasure.

Providing enriching experiences beyond the classroom is an important part of life in Pre-Reception, and the visit to Little Street was a wonderful example of how even the youngest children can benefit from new adventures, greater independence and opportunities to learn through play.
