St Christopher’s Celebrates World Space Week
8th October 2026
Our World Space Week celebrations got off to a flying start on Monday with a very special visit from Mrs Reid, Science Lead at our sister school, Chinthurst School, who delivered an out-of-this-world assembly packed with fascinating facts about space and our solar system.
The children were taken on an exciting journey through space, exploring the qualities needed to become an astronaut and discovering some incredible facts about the planets, stars and Sun. They were particularly amazed by the sheer size of the Sun compared with Earth, learning that if the Sun were represented by a large ball, Earth would be no bigger than a cherry tomato!
Following the assembly, our Year 2 children enjoyed a special hands-on workshop with Mrs Reid, delving even deeper into the wonders of the solar system. They were fascinated to discover that Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, is made mostly of gas and is home to the Great Red Spot – an enormous storm that has been raging for hundreds of years! Armed with their newfound knowledge, the children then had great fun creating their very own solar systems.
A huge thank you to Mrs Reid for sparking such curiosity and enthusiasm for science. Her visit was a wonderful example of the shared expertise and enriching learning experiences our children enjoy as part of the RGS family of schools.
