Welcome to Box Hill School – Now Part of the RGS Group
3rd June 2025
We are pleased to announce that Box Hill School is joining the RGS Group of Schools and will relaunch as RGS Surrey Hills. This exciting strategic partnership marks a new chapter for the RGS family.
A Distinctive, Nurturing School in a Beautiful Location
RGS Surrey Hills is a small, co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18, set within 40 acres of stunning countryside near Box Hill. It will retain its own leadership team, teaching staff, community, and identity, while benefitting from the strength and support of the RGS Group.
The school will continue to offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and A Levels, providing a nurturing and internationally minded education to a diverse community of local and global families. RGS Surrey Hills is also a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC) and a founding member of the Round Square international association, reflecting its commitment to positive and shared values.
A Partnership Offering Choice and Opportunity
RGS Headmaster, Shaun Fenton said:
“This partnership gives choice to local families. RGS Surrey Hills is different to Reigate Grammar School but we will share the same holistic ambitions that our students will enjoy their childhood, learn about themselves and the world, and will leave school ready for a happy and successful adult life.”
Hayley Robinson, Headmistress of RGS Surrey Hills, said:
“This is an exciting new chapter that enables us to build on everything we already do so well – nurturing confident, compassionate young people with a strong sense of self and purpose. Joining the RGS Group strengthens our foundation and expands opportunities for our pupils and staff. As RGS Surrey Hills, we remain true to our spirit while aiming higher than ever — preparing our students not just for exams, but for life.”
Mark Elsey, Chair of Governors at RGS, said:
“RGS Surrey Hills will bring new strengths to our Group and extend opportunities for local families, while protecting the exceptional experience at Reigate Grammar School. It is about offering choice without compromise.”
Enriching Opportunities for the Whole RGS Community
The partnership also unlocks future shared enrichment opportunities for both schools and for the prep schools in the RGS Group (Reigate St Mary’s, Chinthurst, Micklefield and St Christopher’s Pre-Prep) including access to improved facilities, even more co-curricular opportunities, and new post-16 options including studying the IB and sixth form boarding. It offers valuable reassurance to families at the RGS prep schools, providing a guaranteed pathway through to age 18 at one of the RGS senior schools.
At a time when many families are looking for more flexibility, personalisation, and values-led education, the RGS Group is responding with a clear vision: two exceptional but different senior schools, one shared commitment to children’s success and wellbeing.
