House System
At the heart of St Christopher’s is our traditional House system, which plays a special role in school life, helping every child feel a strong sense of belonging, support and pride.
The school is divided into four Houses, creating smaller, close-knit communities where children build friendships, encourage one another and enjoy a healthy spirit of competition.
Each House is named after a much-loved children’s author, bringing stories to life across the school:
Ahlberg – Green
Dahl – Yellow
Donaldson – Blue
Kemp – Red
At the start of every term, children gather in their Houses to enjoy a chapter from their House author and learn about the exciting ways they can earn House points throughout the term. We are delighted to have welcomed author Anna Kemp to school, who read her book Dogs Don’t Do Ballet to the children, and we also receive cards and letters from Allan Ahlberg and Julia Donaldson – a wonderful way to inspire a love of reading. Our House Days, often linked with World Book Day celebrations, are always a highlight.
Care, Community and Celebration
Pastoral care sits at the heart of our House system. Children are encouraged to support and mentor one another across year groups, helping to create a caring and inclusive community. Once a child joins a House, younger siblings automatically become members too, strengthening family connections within the school.
Our structured reward system motivates and celebrates success, with House points awarded for positive behaviour, academic effort and sporting achievements. These are added up each week and proudly celebrated in our weekly merits assemblies.
Inter-house events are a fun and popular way to build teamwork and celebrate collective achievements. Highlights include our annual Inter-House Sports Day in July, alongside activities such as our Thinking Skills Day and House Charity Day.
Each House is led by Year 2 House Captains, who are chosen in recognition of their talent, commitment and positive attitudes. They take their responsibilities seriously, collecting House points from classrooms each week and acting as role models for younger children.
