Our Reception Visit to Discovery Land

At St Christopher’s, we’re always looking for ways to make learning meaningful, memorable and right for our children – and sometimes that means thinking a little outside the box.

Taking our new Reception children on a school trip during their first week might not be the usual way to start school, but we felt it was the perfect opportunity for them to spend time together, build confidence and begin forming new friendships.

So, as part of their first week with us, our Reception children headed off for an adventure at Discovery Land. Our Headteacher, Mrs Grehan, joined them for the day too. Having already spent time getting to know the children, it was lovely to be able to share in their first school adventure.

The children had a fantastic time exploring the Music Garden, following the Fairy Trail and even feeding some rather lively ducks! One of the biggest highlights was undoubtedly the tractor ride, which was met with lots of smiles, laughter and excitement.

For some of our children, this was their first ever school trip and their first big adventure away from their new classroom. They embraced the experience brilliantly and absolutely rose to the challenge. Because starting school doesn’t have to feel daunting. It can feel exciting – and even a little bit adventurous!
