Year 1’s High Flying Adventure at Brooklands Museum

Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Brooklands Museum last week, where they stepped back in time to discover how transport has changed over the years. With so many fascinating vehicles and aircraft to see, there was plenty to capture the children’s imaginations.

Stepping aboard an old Routemaster bus and seeing the vintage racing cars were firm favourites. The children also visited some historic race cars, where they examined its parts. They observed that the roof was missing, there was no seatbelt and there was only one seat. Then discussing in a group, “why was there only one seat in a race car?”.

Another special moment was seeing the magnificent Concorde up close. The children were fascinated by this iconic aircraft and particularly enjoyed climbing aboard historic planes, sitting in a cockpit and imagining themselves as pilots. Exploring the vast aircraft hangars gave them even more opportunities to investigate and discover.

The visit was a wonderful way to bring Year 1’s learning about transport past and present to life. The children returned to school excited to share their favourite moments and all the interesting things they had discovered during a very memorable day.

The children also visited the historic Brooklands race track, where they could imagine the excitement of racing cars speeding around the circuit many years ago.
