From the very start, art is a joyful and much-loved part of school life, where creativity is celebrated and every child is encouraged to shine. Guided by our wonderfully enthusiastic art specialist, Mrs Degg, children are introduced to a rich variety of artistic experiences, from sculpture and painting to textiles, printing, drawing and collage. Each term, children explore the work of a famous artist, discovering new styles and ideas in ways that feel exciting, accessible and just right for their age.
Lessons focus on the adventure of creating rather than simply the finished piece. Even from a young age, children amaze us as they mix colours, experiment with textures, try simple stitching, explore printing and build in 3D. They work with fabric, paint, pastels and mixed media, developing fine motor skills, growing confidence and, most importantly, a genuine love of art.
St Christopher’s is a place where children feel safe to take risks, share their ideas and celebrate each other’s successes. This warm, nurturing environment helps them build independence, imagination and self-belief as young artists.
