Nicholas MacCarthy
10th May 2017
Following the arrival of a full orchestra last week to herald the start of Music Term, we were thrilled to invite the legendary one handed concert pianist Nicholas McCarthy into school on Friday. Mr McCarthy delighted the children with his accomplished performances and talked to the children about the stories behind the pieces that he had chosen to play. As they closed their eyes the children heard horses galloping away from a Goblin King as just one example of story-telling through music. Nicholas then talked to the older children about his challenge to be accepted into music college to be a pianist. He talked about overcoming obstacles when pursuing your dreams and of his joy at graduating from the Royal College of Music. The children and staff were gripped by his inspirational talk and during a Q and A session one young child said ‘I have learnt that I should follow my dreams and work hard to achieve my goal to become an spaceman!’
