‘Real Tennis’ at Hampton Court
17th October 2017
In order to enrich our topic on The Tudors we had a wonderful and informative visit to Hampton Court. A fabulous ‘Tudor’ lady called Elizabeth Brown took us on an Upstairs, Downstairs tour looking at the differences between the lives of the rich and poor in Tudor times We were wowed by the beautiful ceiling in the chapel and were amazed to find out that Jane Seymour’s heart was buried at the alter! The second part of our visit took place on the ‘Real’ Tennis Court-Real tennis is the original indoor racquet sport from which the modern game of tennis is descended. Our lucky children were fortunate enough to experience playing the game with the curved tennis racquets and smaller harder balls. They played three different shots hitting the ball over the net and off the wall. A truly great day had by all.
