Reception News-Forest Schools Whittling Fun

During one of our Forest School sessions the children were developing their fine motor skills using a range of tools whilst working with wood. First they were helped to saw a stick into smaller pieces and then they used a potato peeler to independently whittle the wood they had cut. The children commented on the feel and smell of the wood as they were working and very proudly took their whittled wood home. One child commented that, “Whittling is hard and the cut wood smells like cucumber!”
